This is one of the areas where Nana Lord did some repairs -- and I need to continue the work in one of the patches right over Memorial Day. This black patch matched the original backing of the quilt, a very shiny satin.
Ruth Lord, my grandmother, created this quilt in 1971 at her home in Ipswich, Massachusetts. It was the quilt that comforted my brother and me when we were sick, that we huddled under on cold nights. Nana Lord restored a few patches and re-backed it sometime in the late '80s, early '90s (she would have been in her 80s!) but it still needs a lot of work. Can this quilt be saved?
